Tapestry Tuesday #3 - Evasive Imperative Threads
Hello all!
Its Ohms again, here to share yet another Tapestry Tuesday with you!
Today we focus on the second category for the Celestial Tapestry: Evasive Thread Skills
The Evasive Orbs
Evasive Skills are the second of the three Forms of Imperative Skills. While not entirely as straightforward as Defensive Skills, Evasive skills do have a singular purpose: The negation of enemy attacks through relocation.
Evasive Skills exist primarily to be able to bypass enemy attacks, and use that successful maneuver to approach enemies quickly for follow-up offensive retaliation. As such, the various Output types reflect both the speed and the efficiency at which they make the approach, and how well they can use it to bypass attacks entirely.
You’ll be seeing a lot more about these.
Instant Evasions are generally known as "Blinks”. They involve a near-instant transmission between two locations. The moment just before and just after shifting locations, the playable character is able to evade damage, however, once they are at the new location, they are vulnerable, making mis-use of instant evasive actions potentially punishing.
Focused Evasions are generally known as Dashes. They involve the player moving rapidly in any specified direction, allowing the player to adjust the trajectory during the dash per their desires. During this, the player evades all attacks that would normally hit them in this state.
Channeled Evasions are generally known as Boosts. They involve the player gaining a massive but diminishing burst of movement speed, during which they can perform some of their normal movement actions (jumping, wallrunning, etc) without being struck by attacks.
With Evasive Skills, players are not only given another defensive option to bypass damaging attacks, but also an additional method of speedily maneuvering around the levels.
Evasion and Defense cover the great majority of defensive abilities that playable characters have in their kit. However, they aren’t the only Imperative Skills that players are provided! The final Form will be demonstrated at next week’s Tapestry Tuesday. Look forward to it!
